heres an ode to ur greatness
the euphonium has a very mellow sound that tends to blend in. It is because euphoniums blend in so well with other instruments that most people don't know what role the euphoniums play in the band. Looking at a euphonium part, however, you would think that it is the most important instrument in the band. For example, in "Stars and Stripes Forever," the euphoniums play the descending line with the trombones in the first two measures, then jump suddenly up two octaves to join the woodwinds. They double the trombones in the first strain. They play the trio with the clarinets, the breakup strain with the trombones, and the finale with the trumpets. They never rest!
Because euphonium parts are so stimulating, euphonium players must fight the urge to view themselves as central figures in the band. They must constantly remind themselves that the only time a euphonium is truly audible is when it accidentally plays during a rest. Something would be missing if the euphoniums didn't play, but nobody would know what it was.
